The Space Between

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

At this moment in history, we find ourselves in limbo, waiting for clarity: who will be the president of the United States in 2021?

After all the rallying, the campaigning, the debates and challenging conversations, we find ourselves suspended in time.

In an era where we’re used to getting answers immediately, this feels foreign, uncomfortable and frustrating. And impatience, is at the root of frustration. Patience is definitely a virtue that I continue to work on!

In this moment, as the dust settles, there lies an incredible opportunity: the opportunity to cultivate courage. Not in the way you may immediately think. Many have displayed outward courage over the last few months, rallying voters around their chosen candidate, speaking up for those who have been marginalized by society.

No, this courage is when the warrior turns inward to face the battles and fears that rage within. As we wait, what fears come to the surface? What are the values you fight so valiantly for? Now is the opportunity to explore these values, understand why they are so important and courageously look inwards. Where do we uphold these values and don’t we?

Because we have to BE the society we want to SEE.

If you feel triggered reading this, thinking “how dare you ask me to do more?! I’m exhausted, angry and disgusted, and this is about the other voters doing the work!” I hear you. You’re right: you won’t have the energy or desire to do this if you’re struggling to make ends meet, if you’re exhausted, stressed or burned out.

Typically, I only guide my clients through this work once they’ve implemented the LARASAH Method and have moved from surviving to thriving (if you want to know more about this method, you can check out my video series here ). Yet if you’re curious, or feel up to the challenge, I invite you to use the following as journal prompts as you process and await the election results!

Step 1: What are your values? If you want to explore that further, drop a comment below and I can create content around this. For now, you can use the three values below to guide your reflection

Step 2: Answer the following questions. How do you feel about each value? What emotions and realizations come to the surface? Do some of the values matter more to you? Why? Who in your life shares these values?

a) If the results go one way, are you afraid that society will lose freedom? Freedom is a valiant value and when taken to it’s extreme, it can reveal its shadow side. Where do you exalt your freedom in your daily life? Where do you cage yourself and give your freedom away? Where are you trapped by beliefs that no longer serve you?

b) If the results go another way, are you afraid society will lose accountability? Accountability, when words align with action, is another valiant quality. Where do you model accountability in your life? Where do you keep or break promises to yourself, to loved ones, to your peers and staff?

c) Or are you indifferent, and fear the lack of integrity in the political system, in societal structures? Integrity, the essence of upholding and embodying truth, decency and fairness is essential to a healthy society. Where are you a truth teller, a courageous example of integrity? Where do you hold back, lie to yourself or to others?

This work is not easy: it takes courage. But this is the path of the warrior, the leader, the healer, the heart-centered citizen. The rewards for this exploration are bountiful. On the other side of this work lies empowerment, clarity, deeper truth and even joy!

It is in this space between not knowing and knowing the results, between our conscious actions and unconscious beliefs that the most beautiful revelations are found.

Aren’t sunsets and sunrises the most magnificent spectacles on Earth?

Tomorrow morning, I invite you to pause and observe the sun rise. In the moments between darkness and sunlight, as nature moves from night to day, observe the myriad of colors changing second by second, minute by minute. There is an incredible wealth of wisdom that is available to us when we pause and explore that space between our outward projection and our inner world.

And if today you just want to hunker down, drink a glass of wine, indulge in that chocolate bar and watch some Netflix, I hear you. Take care of yourself in these exceptional times.

Take care,

Lara

P.S. Freedom, accountability, integrity, sovereignty and unity are values that I hold, and continue to learn to practice in daily life. What are your values? Please share in the comments below!
